This historic trail served as a highway connecting Missouri and Santa Fe, New Mexico, in the 19th century. Covering ground in New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri, the trail was used by fur traders, adventurers, stagecoach lines and thousands of gold seekers. Boot Hill was named after the practice of burying gunmen and loners shot on the spot with their boots on. Today, visitors can relive the exciting era of these lawless times in Dodge City by strolling through a historic cemetery, jail and Front Street in the 1870s replica.
